Red Raiders fall to Archbishop 1-0, enter state tourney as No. 4 seed

Archbishop Murphy defeated Bellingham 1-0 on Saturday, Nov. 9, in the consolation game of the Class 2A Bi-District Tournament. With the loss, Bellingham moves into the state tournament as the No. 4-seed.

Brooke Richardson netted the game-winner in the 23rd minute and Archbishop rolled to victory. The ball was played in the air and goalkeeper Hannah Jacobus came out to play it and it bounced in front of her and went over her head.

"It was a funky goal," Bellingham coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. "Hannah did great today. She was very aggressive and we were happy with the way she played."

The game signifies the end of four games in one week for the Red Raiders.

"It was a long week for us," Wright said. "Both teams came out a little drab in the beginning of the game. We rose to the physical challenge, but couldn't generate the type of attack needed to get good looks at the net."

Bellingham plays Ridgefield in the state tournament on Friday, Nov. 15.

Goal: Brooke Richardson (AM), time: 23. Shots on goal: Bellingham 4; Archbishop Murphy 8. Goalies (saves) Bellingham: Hannah Jacobus (7); Arhcbishop Murphy: Natalie Robinson (4).
