Sedro-Woolley earns first state bid since 1991


The Sedro-Woolley football team defeated Lake Washington 48-13 in the Class 2A Bi-District Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 8, at Sedro-Woolley. The Cubs secured a bid into the state tournament for the first time since 1991.

Shawn Kennedy got Sedro-Woolley off to a good start with a 2-yard touchdown run in the first half. Lake Washington answered back with a 73-yard touchdown run, but back-to-back touchdowns by Clayton Johnson and Tanner Newton.

Lake Washgton would open up the second half with a field goal, but a 12-yard touchdown run by Quinn Carpenter at the onset of the third quarter gave the Tigers a 28-10.

Kennedy added his second touchdown of the game after catching a 20-yard pass from Devin Willard that all but secured the state berth for Sedro-Woolley.

Carpenter added his second rushing touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard run.

Kennedy finished the game with 136 rushing yards on 17 carries.
