Local club member wins Judo tournament

Mike Sullivan took home first place in the Senior Male Brown/Black belt +100 kg division at the Continental Judo Crown on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Highline Community College. Sullivan also participated in the Open division, and had the top finish of the four Western Judo Club members competing in the event.

Gary Gokey was third in the Senior Male Brown/Black belt -81 kg division, scoring a win after submitting his opponent with a juji-gatame, or a cross-arm lock.

Jacob Standaert also competed in the Senior Male Brown/Black belt -90 kg division, and Ralph Bajema also participated, and finished third in the Masters Male -81kg division.

BASEBALL TRYOUTS

The Whatcom County Blaze baseball team will hold tryouts from 3-5 p.m. beginning on Sunday, Nov. 10, for their U-14 Spring Pony League team. Tryouts will continue from 3-5 p.m. Nov. 17 and 24, and Dec. 1. All tryouts are being held at Squalicum Creek Field/Park. Those who cannot make it to the tryouts, or those with further questions can contact Jimmy Sears at 360-510-4661.
