Rave: Thanks to Bellingham Herald for series of cancer articles

The Bellingham Herald deserves to be commended for its articles on cancer published during October, the 100th anniversary of the American Cancer Society. Your depiction of the lives of people struggling with cancer was inspiring.

Cancer is not a popular subject; most people would prefer not to think about it at all. However, we all should recognize that it will not go away of itself; it needs to be combated. Two world-class cancer research programs doing just that are located nearby: the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (fhcrc.org/en.html) and the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research (marsharivkin.org). Both run clinical trials that are open to people from Whatcom County.

I urge anyone who is in any way concerned about cancer to examine their websites. Cancer has been with us for a long, long time, and will be for a long time to come. But progress is being made.
