The Bellingham girls' soccer team lost to Archbishop Murphy 1-0 on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Everett Memorial Stadium in the first round of the Class 2A Girls' Soccer Bi-District Tournament.
Despite the loss, Bellingham remains alive and will face Sehome on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in a loser-out match.
Gabrielle Ducheane scored the game's lone goal in the 68th minute off an assist by Cali Crisler.
"Archbishop Murphy has a great everything," Bellingham coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. "We fought like absolutely crazy, (and) I thought we had a really good plan on how to defend them."
Despite not being able to produce any goals, Wright left quite pleased with how his defense was able to keep Archbishop Murphy to just one goal.
"My back girls, Emma Brice, Kylie Clark and Michaela Knutson were really, really sound," Wright said.
In the same breath, though, the fact that Bellingham wasn't able to produce a single goal is worrisome heading into a lose-or-go-home match against cross-town rival Sehome. That, Wright said, is something they are going to have to figure out in the next few days, and figure it out quick.
"I think we are going to have to figure out where to put our most active and aggressive players on the field who are willing to go in strong on some stuff," Wright said. "We got a lot of kids who win balls, we just don't have a lot of kids that have a nose for finishing."
