Sara Dougan's corner kicks lift Lynden Christian over South Whidbey

Lynden Christian will enter the Class 1A Tri-Disrict tournament on a high note after defeating South Whidbey 2-0 on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The Lyncs capitalized on two corner kicks to get both of their goals.

The first came in the 35th minute when Sara Dougan served in the corner and Livi Vander Griend rose up and headed the ball into the net.

The second goal came in the 68th minute off the foot of Courtney Hollander, who managed to poke it in amid the scrum of players. Sara Dougan was credited with her second assist of the game.

"It's something we practice almost everyday," coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "Today out team size was an advantage and both goals were very good execution on something we work on."

The Lyncs now play an opponent to be determined later on Tuesday, Nov. 5 in the Tri-District tournament and De Ruyter feels his team is prepared.

"I think we can take things away from this," De Ruyter said. "With back-to-back games on turf it gives us confidence on a surface we don't see regularly."
