Second-half flurry sets back Trojans

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDNovember 2, 2013

Beth Stella netted two goals and King's defeated Meridian 3-0 in the Class 1A District championship game on Saturday, Nov. 2.

All three goals came within eight minutes of each other. From the 58th to the 66th minute, King's capitalized on chances and the game quickly was out of reach.

"It was actually an even match," coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview. "We had a little lapse in the second half, but it was really a back and forth match. I think if we played them again, we could beat them."

Meridian moves into the Class 1A Tri-District tournament. They will play Northwest on Nov. 5 at a place and time to be determined. The loss makes the road harder for Meridian, but it isn't out yet.

"We have a great chance," Ames said. "We were exactly where we were last year and this team is as good if not better. We will have to work a little more but anything is possible."
