WCC men's soccer falls at home

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDOctober 30, 2013

The Whatcom Community College men's soccer team couldn't handle playoff-bound Skagit Valley at home and fell to the Cardinals 2-1.

Ryo Matsubara scored to put the Orcas (4-7-3, NWAACC 4-6-2) up in the ninth minute, but it was Skagit Valley who did all the scoring after that.

Alex Bell evened up the score in the 26th minute and Jack Upton netted the game winner in the 84th minute.

Skagit Valley was the more physical team, picking up five yellow cards to Whatcom's one. The Orcas only yellow card went to coach Joel Grossman.

Goalkeeper Andrew Wildfong recorded three saves on the night.

Whatcom plays its final game of the year Saturday, Nov. 2, at Shoreline.
