THE BELLINGHAM HERALDOctober 30, 2013

Mount Baker bumped up one spot to No. 6 in the latest Class 1A rankings when the Associated Press Washington State High School Football Poll was released Wednesday, Oct. 30.

The Mountaineers (7-1, 4-0 NWC 1A), who beat Blaine 52-19 last week, were stagnant at No. 7 for several weeks. They face Meridian at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, in Laurel with an automatic state berth on the line. Baker has won five straight while scoring no less than 42 points since its only loss of the season against Lynden back on Sept. 20.

Lynden (8-0, 6-0 NWC) remained No. 2 in the Class 2A rankings behind undefeated Tumwater. The Lions, who beat Ferndale 14-6 last week, earned four first-place votes to Tumwater's 11. Lynden finishes its regular season hosting Squalicum at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, before playing Sultan in the 2A district playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in Lynden.

Lummi (6-2, 3-1 NWFL 1B), which stayed at No. 5, was the only other ranked Whatcom County school. The Blackhawks beat Lopez 54-28 last week and finish their regular season against Tulalip Heritage at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in Marysville.

Camas remained ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, earning all 15 first-place votes. Bellevue was unanimously ranked No. 1 in 3A, and undefeated Zillah earned all 14 votes in Class 1A. Morton White Pass topped the 2B poll with 11 of 12 first-place votes, and Neah Bay remained No. 1 in the 1B ranks.
