Says port pair listen to citizens

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDOctober 30, 2013

These are important times for Whatcom County with the ongoing waterfront development and the airport expansion. The port commissioners will determine how our county will grow and create jobs while keeping the needs and desires of local residents in mind. It is extremely important for Whatcom voters to educate themselves about the differences between the candidates for the two port commissioner positions. I support Mike McCauley and Renata Kowalczyk because I believe they are willing to listen to the citizens' needs and wants while balancing the push for more growth and jobs -- not an easy job. It seems to me the other two candidates are more focused on growing without enough concern on the impact and long term consequences it may have on the local community. Ken Bell is set on continued growth at the airport, hoping flights to the East Coast are coming - "his dream," as he travels weekly for his business. Do we want to become "BeTac," a mini SeaTac, with flights in and out of Bellingham every 20 minutes? If you want all voices to be heard regarding the future of Whatcom County, vote Mike McCauley and Renata Kowalczyk.
