Lynden defeats Sedro-Woolley in Lions' season finale

Alexa Smiley scored a goal and had an assist for the Lynden girls' soccer team as the Lions defeated Sedro-Woolley 3-0 on Monday, Oct. 28, at Bender Fields. The game was the final of the season for Lynden, which finishes with a 5-7-4 record overall and 3-6-3 in the Northwest Conference.

"Our defense was able to step in at the right time to clear the ball and not allow too much to build up in front of our goal," Lynden coach Katie Yoder said in a phone interview. "(Smiley) had a great game, she took a lot of shots and created a lot of offense. She figured out their defense and got past them."

Jayme Smits notched the first goal for Lynden on a cross from Smiley, which Yoder called a "beautiful soccer play." Elisa Kooiman scored the second goal for the Lions, assisted by Madison Wandel, before Smiley added her goal a minute later.
