Volcano expert speaks Tuesday at Bellingham's Old City Hall


BELLINGHAM - The chief scientist at the Cascades Volcano Observatory will talk Tuesday, Oct. 29, about the status of volcano monitoring thorughout the Cascade Mountains.

John Ewert, a U.S. Geological Survey scientist, is an authority on volcano monitoring. The Mount Baker Volcano Research Center is sponsoring the event.

Mount Baker is among those volcanoes considered a high threat by USGS, but budget restraints have limited plans to increase monitoring of Cascade volcanoes.

The talk begins at 7 p.m. at Whatcom Museum's Old City Hall building, 121 Prospect St. Doors open at 6:30. A $3 donation to the museum is requested at the door.
