Lyncs grab strong season-ending win

The Lynden Christian girls' soccer team defeated Friday Harbor 7-0 on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Friday Harbor. It was the Lyncs' final match of the season.

Sierra De Vries scored Lynden Christian's first goal in the 28th minute off an assist by Sally Vlas. Livi Vander Griend notched the next two goals over a nine-minute stretch, and Courtney Hollander's goal in the 39th minute gave the Lyncs a 4-0 lead entering the half.

"I thought our girls' focus was really good," Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "I thought the girls responded well and did some good things in preparation for next week."

Vlas scored the first goal out of the half off an assist by Lexi Vander Griend in the 57th minute. Lexi Vander Griend got a goal of her own in the 64th minute and Shelby Brown rounded out Lynden Christian's day scoring.

"Lexi and Livi, they had a great day today," De Ruyter said. "It was a great way to finish their regular season."

Upon entering playoffs, De Ruyter was happy with how his team ended its season, specifically talking about the way they controlled and moved the ball.

"Our big one is consistency," he said. "I thought we played a very consistent match. ... Our possession was really good."
