Ferndale volleyball defeats Lynden in four sets

Ferndale volleyball defeated Lynden 25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 25-23 on Thursday, Oct. 24, at Lynden. The Golden Eagles (8-4 overall, 7-3 Northwest Conference) were led by Brooke Benson's 11 kills.

"She really took the gameplan of mixing up shots to heart," Ferndale coach Patti Hoelzle said in a phone interview. "We knew we had to have strong blocks tonight, especially against (Lynden's) Kat Webb."

Webb had 12 kills and 27 digs for the Lions (4-8, 4-6 NWC), and her teammate Kelsey Bouwman added nine kills and 14 digs. Ferndale's Whitney Walker had five aces, and Hannah Carlson had 18 kills and earned extra praise from Hoelzle.

"(Carlson) had a really great game defensively tonight in the back row," Hoelzle said. "We kept our side of the net as clean as it could be, which helped against a strong-hitting team like Lynden."

Ferndale's next match is at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at home against Anacortes. Lynden will look to bounce back from the loss at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at Meridian.
