Midfielder Delanee Nilles scored late in the first half as nationally ranked Western Washington University remained perfect at home with a 1-0 victory over Montana State University Billings on Thursday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer contest at Orca Field on the Whatcom Community College campus.
The Vikings, ranked No. 12 nationally in the latest Division II Top 25 Poll after being No. 2 each of the last four weeks, improved to 13-1-0 overall and stayed atop the GNAC at 10-1-0. They are 7-0-0 at home.
Nilles scored in the 43rd minute, getting the ball 25 yards from the goal after a short pass from Stephanie Hamilton and putting it in the upper left corner.
Hamilton had already been a presence in the opening half, forcing a pair of difficult saves by MSUB goalkeeper Krystal Daniels.
WWU had a 13-9 advantage in shot attempts, but was outshot 6-5 in the second half. Alyssa Beauchamp had five saves for the Vikings, who posted their ninth shutout of the year.
