Dr. Steve Smith is vice president of the Bellingham School Board, ready to be president this December, for good reason. No other school board member comes close to Steve's impact on the district over the four years of his first term. He has modeled thoughtful listening to other board members, staff and the public. He is always well prepared for board meetings with critical questions and discerning comments. He applies his time, energy, good humor and skills as both a teacher at WWU and as an accountant to the task of supporting the learning of all students in the district.
Steve has led the redesign of our policy governance board policies (see school website under board) to be better-focused on student learning. He has committed the time to understand how our Washington K-12 public education system is funded; to participate in state and national conferences of school boards to understand the crucial elements of teaching and learning; and to visit classrooms to experience these elements in action and enjoy the eager students. He is an enthusiastic supporter of public education.
If you believe, as we three school board members do, that our Bellingham schools are focused on all children learning at high levels and being prepared for a productive future, and that more work is needed to achieve these goals, then join us in voting to re-elect Steve Smith to the Bellingham School Board.
