Happy with local candidates

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDOctober 23, 2013

Lately I've been so disgusted with what is going on in the other Washington, that I've let that spill over into my attitude about local elections. So I forced myself to attend the League of Women Voters candidates' forum to combat my lethargy - and boy was I surprised. Every single one of the candidates who is running for County Council positions was amazingly articulate and well informed. I realized how lucky we are to have people who are willing to put in the time and energy it takes to make the tough decisions we need for the future of Whatcom County. And I want to thank each and every one of them for that effort. I came away feeling so fortunate to live here and re-energized about voting. I learned that one of the worst results of the fiasco in Congress would be if we neglect to vote and let down the local people who are running for office right here, representing all that is best about a democracy. Don't give up yet - take the time to vote.
