Mariners' volleyball defeats Pioneers in three

Sehome went on the road and swept Nooksack Valley 25-18, 25-12, 25-21 on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Despite the loss, several Pioneers players stood out.

Lindsay Hayes led the team with 11 kills. Brianna Turner had five kills while recording three blocks and Avery Tenkley blocked two hits.

"The third set we cleaned up some things and stayed consistent," Nooksack coach Katie Emmons said in a phone interview.

The Pioneers (5-7, NWC 4-6) drew plenty of praise from their coach.

"Our blockers did a great job at picking out shots," Emmons said. "It's just Sehome has so many threats."

Emmons believes her team is getting better each match and they are prepared for the postseason.

First Nooksack must play Bellingham on the road on Thursday, Oct. 24. Sehome (11-0, NWC 9-0) faces Meridian on Thursday at Sehome High School.
