The Lynden Christian girls' soccer team defeated Meridian 2-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 22, in a Class 1A Northwest Conference matchup at Meridian High School.
With the win, the Lyncs (9-3-2, NWC 7-3-1) hold the tiebreak over Meridian (11-3-1, NWC 7-3-1) after defeating the Trojans.
Sierra De Vries scored the Lyncs' first goal in the 30th minute off an assist from Sally Vlas. Just two minutes later, Livi Vander Griend got a feed from Vlas again to take a 2-0 lead.
"I don't know where normal Meridian soccer was today, but it wasn't here," Meridian coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview. "That wasn't our normal team."
Haley Belanger scored Meridian's lone goal in the 63rd minute.
"It wasn't our worst game, but probably in our top three," Ames said.
