Squalicum girls' soccer shuts out Mount Baker

Kim Hazlett had two goals and Rachel Dorr had a goal and an assist as the Squalicum girls' soccer team defeated Mount Baker 4-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Mount Baker.

Hazlett scored the Storm's first goal in the 25th minute, with the assist from Dorr, then added her second strike four minutes later after an assist from Jackie Dierdorff. Dierdorff had two assists for Squalicum in the game.

"We started off a little slow, weren't playing good team defense, but once we did everything clicked," Squalicum assistant coach Jose Rodriguez said in a phone interview. "(Once the defense improved) we were able to string together our attack, swing the ball around and switch it around in the back to provide different points of attack."

Dorr got Squalicum's third goal, and Lauren Gibb scored the final goal for the Storm. Mount Baker's Jamie Johnson had 12 saves on Squalicum's 20 shots.

Squalicum plays next at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Civic Stadium against Lynden Chrisitian. Mount Baker's next game is at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Anacortes.
