Whatcom County Farm Bureau program to discuss I-522 on Thursday

LYNDEN - The Whatcom County Farm Bureau will present a program titled "Clarity on Initiative 522: Food Labeling" on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Northwest Washington Fair & Event Center.

The presentation, which is open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Mt. Baker Rotary Building at the fairgrounds, 1775 Front St. in Lynden.

The bureau opposes I-522, which, if approved by voters Nov. 5, would label genetically modified (GMO) foods in Washington state.

Organizers said the Thursday event will provide information to voters about the initiative and how it would affect them. They also will be able to ask questions.

The farm bureau's annual member meeting and social networking is the same evening, beginning at 5:30 and 6 p.m. respectively.

There also is a dinner at 6:30 p.m., which is free with an RSVP until dinner spots are full. RSVP by calling 360-354-1194.
