I can think of only one good reason to vote no on initiative 522 and that's so that we can get corporations like Monsanto, Bayer, Dow, and DuPont, to sink another $30 million dollars into Washington state's economy next year if we were to run it again. Hopefully that's what California's planning on doing if this initiative passes here.
Consider this, if these genetically engineered food products are as safe as these corporations claim, why would they invest this kind of money to convince you to vote against it? I'll tell you why, because an uninformed consumer is their best customer.
I believe what these corporations are afraid of is a public that can sue them if someone has an allergic reaction to one of their products that happens to have been engineered with material from a plant that they are allergic too.
I'm sure that the thinking here is, what you don't know can't hurt them. And as for the commercials that say that federal regulations aren't even this rigid, only suggests to me that we be the first state in America to insist on higher labeling standards and work to help other states as well as the federal government to tighten their regulations to meet our standards.
Please join me in voting yes, on initiative 522. And prove to these corporations that you are smarter then they give you credit for!
