Nelson scores game winner for Peninsula

Peninsula College freshman Larkyn Nelson (Bellingham) scored in the 90th minute to lift the Pirates to a 1-0 victory over Bellevue on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

The goal, which was Nelson's fifth of the year, helped Peninsula stay perfect in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges play.

VELTHUIZEN HAS STRONG FINISH

Trinity Christian College freshman Cody Velthuizen (Lynden Christian) was the Trolls' top finisher on Oct. 11, at the Bethel College Invitational cross country meet in South Bend, Ind.

Velthuizen finished sixth overall with a time of 26 minutes, 41.1 seconds on the 8-kilometer course, helping Trinity Christian place third in the 14-school field.

KRUCK EARNS STARTING SPOT

Mesa (Ariz.) Community College freshman Bridget Kruck (Lynden Christian) is batting leadoff and playing centerfield for the Thunderbirds during the fall softball season.

Kruck went 2 for 3 in a scrimmage against Arizona State on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
