Murphy keys win for Meridian over Baker 4-0

The Meridian girls' soccer team defeated Mount Baker 4-0 on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Meridian in a Northwest Conference matchup.

Janessa Murphy got the Trojans their first goal off an assist from Kendra Holmes in the 33rd minute. Payton Lunde added a goal three minutes later off a Murphy assist to give Meridian a commanding 2-0 lead entering the half.

"We got off to a slow start in the first half," Meridian coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview. "The first half was just kind of back and forth, but then we found our rhythm half way through and the goals started coming quickly."

Without really keying in on one particular adjustment, the Trojans came out in the second half and played much better, Ames said. Taylor Lunde scored a goal in the 69th minute off an assist from Holmes. Lexi McKinnon would record the final goal of the game on Murphy's second assist of the match. Murphy, in typical fashion, was all over the field, recording a goal and two assists.

"She has been fantastic lately," Ames said of Murphy. "She is coming on so strong in the end of the season. ... She is really dangerous right now."
