The Lynden Christian girls' soccer team defeated Sedro-Woolley 5-1 on Thursday, Oct. 17, at Lynden Christian.

Lexi Vander Griend scored the Lyncs' first goal in the 35th minute off an assist from Courtney Hollander. Sara Dougan and Hollander lifted Lynden Christian to a two-goal advantage with their respective goals right out of halftime. Sedro-Woolley's Sabrina Wilk brought the Cubs to within two after her goal in the 50th minute, but goals by Haley Hollander and Sally Vlas put the match well in Lynden Christian's favor.

"The girls came out of halftime really focused," Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "We played much better soccer in the second half."

De Ruyter left particularly impressed with the play of Courtney Hollander, who recorded an assist and a goal in the match.

"She is starting to take advantage of opportunities," De Ruyter said.
