Mount Baker volleyball fights for win over Blaine


Mount Baker volleyball won a back-and-forth match against Blaine 20-25, 25-18, 25-16, 18-25, 15-11 on Thursday, Oct. 17, at Mount Baker High School. The Mountaineers were led by Maddy Tanis' seven kills and five blocks in the win.

"Across the board all of our girls did a really good job," Mount Baker coach Mary LeSage said in a phone interview. "Maddy really sticks out for taking over in game five and being outstanding. She had two big blocks and two good kills in the final game."

Emma Lallas added 11 kills for Mount Baker, and teammate Natalie Smith had seven more. Emily Yost also had 30 assists and three aces for the Mountaineers.

Mount Baker plays next at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Meridian. Blaine takes on Friday Harbor at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at home.
