Climb inside firefighting vehicles, take a free ride on a fire engine and feel what it's like to escape from a smoke-filled bedroom during a pancake breakfast this weekend.
South Whatcom Fire Authority's firefighters association is sponsoring the event from 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 19, at Fire Station No. 21, 4518 Cable St. in the Geneva area.
Menu includes pancakes, eggs and ham, coffee, tea, juice, milk and hot chocolate. Price is $5 a person or $12 a family. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit South Whatcom Firefighters Association and the Northwest Burn Foundation.
South Whatcom firefighters will give tours of their firefighting apparatus and answer questions. Firefighters for Fun, a local organization that promotes fire safety, will be providing free fire engine rides. Firefighters will staff a trailer-sized Fire Safety House, offering an educational presentation and giving children a chance to practice escaping from a fire.
