Haggen to close three more stores

Haggen, Inc. announced the closure of three TOP Food & Drug stores.

The TOP stores in Auburn, Kent and Yakima are slated for closure within the next three months.

“We continue to drive against our plan to transform all of our stores to deliver the best in quality and service to our valued customers. Unfortunately, this transformation necessitates the closings we are announcing today,” said Clement Stevens, co-president and senior vice president of merchandising in a news release. “We are confident these changes will better position Haggen to deliver on its commitment to its customers for the years to come.”

“We realize how this difficult decision to close stores will impact many of our valued employees and their families. With the help of our local unions we are diligently working to place employees at other Haggen stores and other local retailers,” Stevens said.

Earlier this year Haggen announced the closure of five other stores; the others were in Tacoma, Lacey, Federal Way, Bellevue and Shoreline.

The company will have four TOP Food stores left in the company. Most of the remaining TOP stores are in the Seattle area. Overall the company has 20 stores in Washington and Oregon.
