Lummi forces six interceptions in 71-6 win

FOR THE BELLINGHAM HERALDOctober 11, 2013

The Lummi Blackhawks showed no mercy Friday, Oct. 11, when they beat the Crescent Loggers 71-6 at Blackhawks Stadium.

The Blackhawks were scoring on all sides of the ball. They even scored a touchdown on a special teams play when Enrique Medina ran a kickoff all the way back for a 65-yard touchdown.

Senior Deion Hoskins, who played all last week as a lineman, started the scoring off with a 26-yard touchdown scamper just four plays into the game. Hoskins was the main running weapon for the Blackhawks as he tallied two total touchdowns and racked up 111 yards.

"We've been moving Deion back and fourth," Blackhawks coach Jim Sandusky said. "He runs the ball well, and is a tough guy to tackle."

Blackhawks quarterback Logan Toby contributed more to the game than just throwing for 71 yards. He added 48 yards on the ground on four carries, two of which went for touchdowns.

The Blackhawks' defense didn't let down all game, even when their junior varsity squad stepped in.

It only gave up two first downs during the first half, and didn't allow a score in the second.

The secondary for the Blackhawks were just that: Hawks. It had a total of six interceptions, two of which were brought back for touchdowns.

"We played really aggressive," Sandusky said. "We just have to continue to do that."

The Blackhawks go on the road next week to take on Clallam Bay, where they will be trying some new things out on both sides of the ball, Sandusky said.

"It's one of those games (where) we will go and get better," Sandusky said. "We are going to do a few things different offensively and defensively to get prepared for the playoffs."
