Lynden Christian, Ferndale girls' soccer play to draw


The Lynden Christian girls' soccer team played to a tie against Ferndale, 1-1 on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Lynden Christian. Daphnee Manderson had eight saves for the Lyncs on nine Ferndale shots on goal.

"It was a great battle today, both teams played incredibly hard," Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "We matched Ferndale's physicality and they're tough."

Katelyn Neher opened the scoring for Ferndale in the sixth minute, with the assist going to Jordin Bartel. The Golden Eagles' Linsey Honeycutt had nine saves on 11 Lynden Christian shots. Courtney Hollander tied the game up in the 42nd minute after an assist from Sally Vlas.

Lynden Christian's next game is at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Bender Fields against Lynden. Ferndale plays next at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Ferndale High School against Meridian.
