Hegeberg, Wong lead Squalicum girls' swimming

Josephine Hegeberg swam two state-qualifying times and Syndney Wong swam one more as Squalicum girls' swimming defeated Anacortes 122-61 on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Arne Hanna Aquatic Center. Hegeberg qualified in the 200 freestyle (2 minutes, 7.80 seconds) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.50), while Wong swam a 56.80 100 freestyle to qualify for state.

Hegeberg helped the 200 medley relay team (2:06.10) and 200 freestyle relay (1:54.30) teams to wins, and Wong also guided the 400 freestyle relay team to a win in a time of 4:10.60. Squalicum (6-0 overall, 5-0 Northwest Conference) coach Steve Gibb said in a phone interview that the two had a great meet.

Bella Wyll won the 100 butterfly in 1:08.00 and the 200 individual medley in 2:28.30 for two of Anacortes' (4-2, 3-2 NWC) three wins.

Squalicum's next meet is at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Lynden YMCA against Ferndale.
