Celebrate Northwest Washington's comic book and pop culture celebration at the fifth annual Bellingham Comicon, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at Ferndale Events Center, 5715 Barrett Road. Costumes are encouraged.

FERNDALE - Fans of comics and cosplay will want to head to the Ferndale Events Center on Saturday, Oct. 12, for the annual Bellingham ComiCon.

Along with lots of local artists and exhibitors, special guests include Randy Emberlin, who has been an inker on Spider-Man and Ghost books; Michael Gagne, whose has helped animate movies such as "The Iron Giant" and whose books include "The Story of Rex" and "Insanely Twisted Rabbits;" and comic artist Doug Wheatley, who has worked on Star Wars, Superman and Aliens books.

For those into words more than drawings, Kat Richardson, author of the "Greywalker" series of paranormal detective novels, will be on hand.

Cosplayers will compete in a costume contest, and there will be an appearance by the 501st Legion, a group famous for its Star Wars costumes.

Tickets are $7 (children 7 and under are free), available on Brown Paper Tickets or at the door, 5715 Barrett Road. The event runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
