Meridian boys' cross country defeated Bellingham and Lynden by registering a score of 24 on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Berthusen Park. The Trojans were led by Collin Magnusson's time of 17 minutes, 52 seconds, just 11 seconds behind race winner Brian Chmelik from Bellingham at 17:41.
Thomas Swineford led Lynden with a time of 18:48, and his teammate Jacob Heeringa finished the 5.25K race in 19:55.
"Thomas and Jacob had impressive races. They upped their pace and were competing the whole way," Lynden coach Kevin Richins said in a phone interview.
Meridian's Davis Phillips was third overall at 18:09, followed by teammate Derek Morrow at 18:34. Bellingham's Sam Gillman was fifth with a time of 18:44.
Bellingham and Lynden next race at the Hole in the Wall Invite at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Lakewood High School. Meridian's next meet is at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Lake Padden.
