Ferndale's Anderson has top-5 finish, Mount Baker placed 2nd in girls' cross country meet


Ferndale runner Jillian Anderson posted the fastest time of any Whatcom County runner, and Mount Baker runner Kelsie Nern led the Mountaineers to a second-place finish during a girls' cross country meet Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Burlington Airport.

Burlington-Edison won the meet with 17 points, Mount Baker had 45 points and Ferndale placed third with 64 points. Tigers runner RaynJoy Norton won the meet with a run of 17 minutes, 59.5 seconds. Two other Burlington-Edison runners rounded out the top three.

Anderson's 20:35 marked the best Ferndale time. Teammate Jana Peterson finished second best on her team with a 21:44, and Katherine Chamblin was the third fastest Golden Eagle with a run of 22:29.

Nern's 20:58 marked the Mountaineers' fastest time. She finished sixth overall. Chynna Phan finished a spot behind Nern, running a 21:28, and Katie Buss was the third fastest Mount Baker runner with her 21:28 run.

Both Ferndale and Mount Baker race next at the Hole in the Wall Invite at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Lakewood High School in Arlington.
