Bellingham boys' tennis wins ninth straight match with 7-0 victory over Ferndale

The Bellingham boys' tennis team won its ninth straight match with a 7-0 Northwest Conference win against Ferndale Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Ferndale High.

Singles players Liam Miszczak, Connor Thompson and Charlie Carmichael beat their opponents 6-0, 6-0, and the Red Raiders' doubles teams won each match in straight sets.

Ferndale played much better during the second sets of its doubles matches, Golden Eagles coach Rudy Vendiola said in a phone interview.

"You look at their scores, and their scores improved in the second set," Vendiola said. "Bellingham is tough. They hit the ball with a lot of spin, especially their serves. Our goal all season has been to improve with each set, and I believe our boys did that."

The Golden Eagles travel to play Burlington-Edison next at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, while Bellingham travels to play rival Sehome at the same time and date.
