Sehome boys' tennis swept the singles matches to defeat Lynden 6-1 on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Lynden YMCA. The Mariners only dropped a total of six sets in singles play against the Lions.
Sehome's Aaron Goldfogle and Sam Humphreys scored a close victory over Lynden's Dakota Davis and Ben Mulder. Davis and Mulder took the first set 7-6 (8) after a tiebreak, but Goldfogle and Humphreys came back to win the next two sets 7-5, 7-5.
"It was extremely back and forth the whole way," Lynden coach Trey Ballard said in a phone interview. "We were up 5-3 in the last set, but they came back and won 7-5. Sehome played a really good match today."
Lynden's only win came from doubles partners Austin VanderHaak and Cody Engelsma. They beat Sehome's Henry Han and Devin Trueb 6-1, 6-3. The match was played for breast cancer awareness, Ballard said.
Sehome plays Bellingham next at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Sehome High. Lynden's next match is at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, when the Lions host Sedro-Woolley.
