Ferndale moves back into Class 3A football poll

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDOctober 10, 2013

One week after inexplicably falling out of the Associated Press Washington State High School Football Poll, the Ferndale football team is back in.

Following a 41-7 victory over Squalicum on Friday, Oct. 4, the Golden Eagles (5-0, 3-0 NWC 2A/3A) were ranked ninth in Class 3A by a statewide panel of sports writers and editors behind unanimous No. 1 Bellevue. Ferndale next hosts Sedro-Woolley on Friday, Oct. 11.

Lynden (5-0, 3-0) remained atop the Class 2A poll for the fourth straight week after its 45-7 victory over Sehome on Friday. The Lions received nine of the 11 first-place votes cast and out pointed second-place Tumwater, which received the other two, by six points. The Lions next face Bellingham on Friday at Civic Stadium.

The Northwest District is also represented in 2A by No. 5 Lakewood.

Mount Baker (4-1, 1-0 NWC 1A) stayed put at No. 6 in the Class 1A poll behind unanimous No. 1 Zillah. The Mountaineers beat Nooksack Valley 42-14 last week and host Lynden Christian on Friday.

King's moved back into the poll at No. 10 to give the Northwest District two teams in the 1A poll.

Lummi (3-2, 0-1 NWFL 1B) dropped two spots in the Class 1B poll to fifth following its 76-32 loss at top-ranked Neah Bay last week. The Blackhawks will try to rebound on Friday when they host Crescent. The Red Devils maintained the top spot, receiving five of seven first-place votes to beat out No. 2 Liberty Christian, which received the other two.

Camas continued to be a unanimous No. 1 in Class 4A, while Morton/White Pass received six of seven first-place votes to top the Class 2B ranks.
