Backs McAuley for port commissioner

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDOctober 10, 2013

The Port of Bellingham is growing, and there are going to be some big changes and decisions made in the near future. We need to make sure we elect commissioners who have at heart the best interest of the community as a whole.

My small business is directly affected by decisions made by the port. I have attended and spoken at commission meetings, and Mike McAuley struck me as being genuinely interested in what the community had to say. He took seriously the questions and concerns that were brought up, and his approach was not to take sides, but instead to find solutions. He even took the time to meet with me personally to brainstorm and come to a mutually agreeable conclusion. He makes himself accessible and treats individuals and businesses fairly and equally, no matter how small.

Being a port commissioner is a huge responsibility, as there are so many issues on the table. I'm sure it is a challenge to give every issue the attention it deserves, but McAuley excels in this respect.

I believe without a doubt it would be in all of our best interest to re-elect Mike McAuley for port commissioner.
