Lynden outlasts Mount Baker in 2-1 win


The Lynden girls’ soccer team defeated Mount Baker 2-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Bender Fields.

Bailee Mulder got the Lions their first goal in the 13th minute off an assist from Alexa Smiley. Mount Baker’s Ivy Locke would answer back and tie the score at 1-1 with an unassisted goal in the 54th minute.

“It felt like a pretty evenly matched game,” Lynden coach Katie Yoder said in a phone interview. “It was a good game of soccer to watch.”

Kelsey Hewson added the game-winning goal in the 68th minute to seal the win for the Lions.

The most pivotal moment of the match came down to a free kick by Mount Baker. Lynden’ keeper, Emily Holt, recorded the save to preserve the win.

“That was a huge stop for us,” Yoder said.
