Belanger records hat trick as Meridian tops Blaine 5-0


The Meridian girls' soccer team defeated Blaine 5-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Meridian High School.

Haley Belanger scored the Trojans' first three goals in a 13-minute stretch. Payton Lunde assisted on two of Belanger's three goals.

"(Haley) did a great job making sure she was where she needed to be," Meridian coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview. "Payton Lunde played out of her mind."

Anna Pimento scored Meridian's final two goals, with the first coming in the 18th minute, and the second coming in the 70th minute. Payton Lunde recorded her third save of the game on Pimento's first goal.

"Payton could have had five more assists," Ames said. "She was phenomenal."
