Squalicum boys' tennis wins at home


The Squalicum boys' tennis team earned a 5-0 Northwest Conference victory Monday, Oct. 7, over Sedro-Woolley at Squalicum High School in a rain-shortened match.

In No. 1 doubles action, Carter Nickelson and Tyler Hoback earned a 7-6 (7), 6-2 victory over Sedro-Woolley's Freddy Lienhard and Luke Hudson, and the Storm also had straight-set doubles wins from the teams of Nesta Isakovic/Neal Crawford and Cole Herdman/Luke Reinschmidt.

Drew Segren and Kevin Smiley were able to win the only completed singles matches.

"I was really pleased with Drew Segren and Kevin Smiley. I think it was some of the best tennis they've played. They both played strong opponents and played really well," Squalicum coach Joe O'Brien said in a phone interview.


Singles: Drew Segren (S) def. Charlie Rutherford (SW) 6-1, 6-0; Kevin Smiley (S) def. Hector Brandt (SW) 6-2, 6-4.

Doubles: Carter Nickelson and Tyler Hoback (S) def. Freddy Lienhard and Luke Hudson (SW) 7-6 (7), 6-2; Nesta Isakovic and Neal Crawford (S) def. K.J. Rutherford and Phillip Comijn (SW) 6-3, 6-2; Cole Herdman and Luke Reinschmidt (S) def. Blaine Hindman and John Batts (SW) 6-2, 6-4.
