Bellingham man dies, 3 injured in car accident on Slater Road


FERNDALE - A Bellingham man died and three people were injured on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5, when a car swerved into oncoming traffic on Slater Road.

Tonya Feistner, 39, of Bellingham was driving a 1997 GMC suburban eastbound on Slater Road around 12:50 p.m. when she swerved across the center line and hit a 2013 Toyota Scion xB driven by Raymond Bailey, 63, of Bellingham, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Elizabeth Bailey, 62, of Bellingham, a passenger in the Scion, was injured and transported to St. Joseph hospital, as were Feistner and David Widner, 57, of Bellingham, a passenger in Feistner's car.

Feistner was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Saturday evening, but her condition was not available as of 8 p.m., according to a hospital spokeswoman. Both Widner and Elizabeth Bailey were in stable condition at St. Joseph hospital on Saturday evening.

Feistner was not wearing a seat belt; the other three were.

Both cars were totaled. State Patrol said alcohol or drugs were involved; the cause is under investigation.
