Ferndale outlasts Anacortes 4-3


The Ferndale boys' tennis team defeated Anacortes 4-3 on Friday, Oct. 4, at Anacortes.

The Golden Eagles' singles players captured three of their four wins, which were all straight-set victories.

"The singles carried the day," Ferndale coach Rudy Vendiola said in a phone interview. "As a team, this is the best performance they have had all year."

Evan Chapin and Tate Freeman recorded a strong, straight-set win while only losing two total games.

"They had a strong game, as well as probably their best performance," Vendiola said.

Doubles: Kaleb Wigen/Kevin Xue (Ana) def. Joshua Nielke/Jacob Sorenson (Ferndale) 6-3, 6-0; Evan Chapin/Tate Freeman (Ferndale) def. Cooper Huntley/Kieran Saun (Ana) 6-1, 6-1; Kyle Campbell/Sam Rockwood (Ana) def. Nikolay Gobelko/Joshua Usery (Ferndale) 7-5, 7-5.
