Ferndale outlasts Blaine in three sets

The Ferndale volleyball team defeated Blaine 26-24, 25-15, 25-8 on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Blaine.

The Golden Eagles battled through a tough first set against the Borderites, who seemed to return just about every Ferndale hit on defense.

"I was really impressed with Blaine's defense," Ferndale coach Patti Hoelzle said in a phone interview. "We came out hitting really hard all over the court."

Whitney Walker led the Golden Eagles with six aces, and Hannah Pitsch had eight kills.

Hoelzle was particularly impressed with the play of her senior libero Tori Fox.

"She is really our unsung hero," Hoelzle said of Fox. "She passes so many great balls to our center. ... She is a constant, has positive attitude and we couldn't win the way we win without her passes."
