Lynden Christian volleyball sweeps Anacortes


Lynden Christian volleyball defeated Anacortes 25-23, 25-21, 25-19 on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Anacortes. The Lyncs were led by libero Emily Veening's 19 kills.

Lynden Christian had to come from behind in the first set after trailing 15-7, but controlled the final two sets. Kara Bajema had 10 kills and 13 digs, and Karley De Jager added 10 kills for the Lyncs. Carli Tjoelker led Lynden Christian with 22 assists.

"I think the loss Tuesday (Oct. 1, to Burlington-Edison) shook our confidence a bit," Lynden Christian coach Kim Grycel said in a phone interview. "This is still a pretty young group, but they didn't give up tonight (when they were behind)."

Lynden Christian's next match is at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Glacier Peak for the Reach the Peak Invite.
