Lunde, Zapien lead Meridian girls' soccer to win

Taylor Lunde had a goal and an assist as Meridian girls' soccer defeated Friday Harbor 5-0 on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Friday Harbor. Ryley Zapien also had a goal and an assist for the Trojans.

"The game almost looked like it was in slow-mo, the field was really soggy," Meridian coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview. "We did a lot better job passing today than we did Tuesday (Oct. 1, against Squalicum)."

Lexi McKinnon, Payton Lunde and Micaela Pimento scored the other three goals for the Trojans. Meridian goalkeeper Sydney Godspodinovich had four saves in the shutout, but Ames said she was only tested twice by Friday Harbor's forwards.

"One save was in a one-on-one situation after our defender slipped in the mud and fell (...), and the other she just managed to deflect over the crossbar," Ames said.

Meridian's next game is at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, when the Trojans host Blaine.
