LC has strong showing in 3-1 win over Anacortes

The Lynden Christian girls' soccer team defeated Anacortes 3-1 on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Anacortes.

Haley Hollander got the Lyncs on the board with a goal in the 32nd minute. Anacortes' Morgan Drawdy quickly answered back by stealing the ball from a Lynden Christian defender and tying the match up two minutes later.

Sara Dougan scored what proved to be the deciding goal in the 59th minute off a corner kick, giving the Lyncs a 2-1 lead.

"I thought we passed the ball really well," Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "Our midfielders did a great job today."

Shaye Brandsma rounded out the scoring night for Lynden Christian with a goal in the 73rd minute off an assist from Sally Vlas.

Daphnee Manderson had five saves in the net for the Lyncs, while Tara Augustoni had eight for Anacortes.

"Daphnee had a couple great saves," De Ruyter said. "Sally Vlas had a great all around game. She just created a lot of things from the right midfielder spot."
