Honeycutt leads Ferndale girls' soccer in shutout over Blaine

Ferndale defeated Blaine 2-0 on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Pipeline Fields behind four saves from the Golden Eagles' goalkeeper Linsey Honeycutt. Blaine goalkeeper Rhiana Breedlove had seven saves on nine shots in the Borderites' loss.

"Both goals were from far out, lofted in nicely," Blaine coach Kelly Tuski said in a phone interview. "I thought our defense was very solid and organized tonight."

Leigh Sund opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles in the 20th minute. Carly Bannerman scored Ferndale's second goal off of a free kick which Tuski said was beautifully placed in the 34th minute.

Ferndale's next game is at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at home against Nooksack Valley. Blaine plays at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Meridian.
