Police: Bellingham man offered second girl, 16, cash for sex

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDOctober 3, 2013

A Bellingham teen offered at least two underage girls cash for nude photos and sex, according to police.

Anthony Duran, 19, was expected to be charged with the second sex crime Thursday, Oct. 3, after being booked into jail this week on a similar charge.

Duran messaged girls he met on Facebook, according to police. One Ferndale girl, 16, chatted and exchanged texts with him in June. (Duran knew one of her family members.) Over time he paid the girl $1,000, dropped off in envelopes, for more than a dozen nude photos; he also sent her sexual photos of himself, said Ferndale Police Lt. Matt Huffman.

Duran and the girl met face-to-face once to pay for nude photos outside Target at the Bellis Fair mall - the same meeting place he suggested to a 14-year-old girl from Sudden Valley, according to police.

Both times, police believe the parents caught on before sexual contact occurred. In the case of the 14-year-old, an undercover detective, on the girl's cell phone, kept texting with Duran until he offered $150 for oral sex, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office. Duran was arrested when he showed up to the mall parking lot.

He's accused of two counts of commercial sexual abuse of a minor.

Sex crimes can be reported by calling 911, or contacting the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office at 360-676-6650.
