THE BELLINGHAM HERALDOctober 2, 2013

The Whatcom Community College women's soccer team earned a 1-0 NWAACC North Division victory over Everett Community College on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at WCC.

Forward Bailey Butcher scored off an assist from Kristi Mellum in the 28th minute for the only goal of the defensive game.

"It was a pretty good back and forth. Both teams defended well and did a good job of limiting each other," WCC coach Claire Morgan said in a phone interview. "(Kaya Jones) really provided a ton of cover in the back and made some key clearances."

Megan O'Keefe had four saves in goal for the Orcas (5-1-3, 4-0-3 NWAACC).

"I thought today was a great team effort," Morgan said. "I was really pleased with everyone's effort in the game."

Whatcom plays at Edmonds next at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.
